I’m pleased to announce, 91重口 next Trigger Point Therapy course will be held at our Laguna Hills Campus this February, so don’t delay, enroll now!

Who Teaching?

Chris Harmon, Staff Instructor

Staff Instructor, Chris Harmon, will be leading this 100-hour course beginning on February 9th and running through April 17th.  Classes are scheduled for Sundays from 9am to 4pm and Thursday evenings from 6pm to 9pm.

Chris says that bodywork is an essential part of healing. He believes that ‘as facilitators of healing, we each have a set of keys unique to ourselves that unlock the healing process in those we touch. A talented Instructor, Chris altruistic nature is evidenced by his decades of work with the athletic world community. His experience and bodywork techniques have restored optimal musculoskeletal function for thousands.

A valued member of the 91重口 faculty, Chis instructs students in techniques to relieve myofascial pain and dysfunction.  In addition to Trigger Point Therapy, Chris teaches Advanced Circulatory & Sports Massage, Tui Na Acupressure, and Thai Massage.

What Exactly Is a Trigger Point?

Trigger Points are hyperirritable spots located in a tight band of muscle. Trigger points are a result of stress on muscle fibers due to acute trauma or repetitive microtraumas. They may manifest as low back pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, decreased range of motion, jaw pain, tinnitus, tension headaches, plantar fasciitis and other chronic Musculoskeletal disorders.

What is

This chart depicts trigger points of the extremities and the associated area of referred pain.

Therapy for trigger points is a neuromuscular modality used to speed recovery of over-used and injured tissue. The goal is to break up Trigger Point scar tissue and improve blood flow that delivers the nutrients and oxygen needed to heal. Done properly, it can correct muscular imbalances, restore range of motion and relieve chronic pain. A Practitioner learns how to stretch the muscle and then apply pressure to areas of tightness or knots. This helps to relieve muscle tension and speed healing.

What Will I Learn in a Trigger Point Therapy course?

Chris teaches students all about the normal range of motion of the body and how to evaluate movement limitations. He explains the mechanics of an injury and how it can progressively debilitate the patient.

Through lecture and guided hands-on practice students begin to identify trigger points in the musculoskeletal system. They also learn protocols for rehabilitating soft tissue injuries to ensure rapid recovery.  These include the use of manual therapies to eliminate spasms and hypercontraction of the tissue.  Stretching techniques are mastered to restore biomechanics and flexibility. Finally, students learn specific targeted exercises that they can facilitate and also teach to clients.  In this way the client is able to rebuild their strength, function and endurance.

Staff Instructor, Rain Colvin

What Exactly is Tui Na?

An ancient Chinese massage technique, Tui Na is one of the five tools of Traditional Chinese Medicine used to treat energy blocks and imbalances in the body.  In Tui Na a Practitioner applies pressure to specific points along acupuncture meridians (pathways) to enhance the flow of Qi (energy), and blood through the body. Accordingly, Tui Na addresses a variety of musculoskeletal issues, digestive problems, stress related ailments and emotional concerns.

When and Where are Tui Na Classes Held?

91重口’ TuiNa (Acupressure) classes start on February 8th and run through April 16th, 2025. Classes will be held on Saturdays from 9a – 3p, and Wednesday evenings from 6 – 10p. The Laguna Hills campus is located at 23022 La Cadena, Laguna Hills.

What Will I Learn in a Tui Na (Acupressure) Class?

91重口 Students practice Tui Na on acupressure points of the neck.

91重口 Tui Na course includes 100 hours of lecture, demonstration and guided, hands-on practice.聽Students learn manipulation techniques to move Chi (energy) throughout the body, penetrating ill and injured areas. They practice specific treatments known to address disorders of the spine, chronic joint pain, and a variety of common illnesses.

What are Tui Na Treatments like?

Tui Na treatments include oscillating techniques to increase energy and the traditional presses and pulls characteristic of the modality. The recipient may experience mild to moderate pressure from the Practitioner pressing specific point along the meridian channels of the body. Many relax into the session, focusing in on their body which calms their mind.

How Does Tui Na Work?

The use of this modality on clients enhances their body’s ability to self-heal. It does so by facilitating a harmonious flow of energy and blood within the muscles, tendons, joints, and meridians of the body.

What Are the Benefits of TuiNa Therapy?

  • Improved Circulation: Like other touch therapies, Tui Na deep tissue aspect stimulates blood and lymph flow.  The increased drainage of lymph reinforces the immune system. Blood flow increases oxygen and nutrients to your organs and tissues.
  • Enhanced Sleep Quality: Those who receive therapy report that they fall asleep faster, enjoy more restful sleep patterns.
  • Diabetic Symptoms:  When given during the early stages of the diabetic condition referred to as ‘diabetic foot’, Tui Na reduced inflammation and provided relief from associated pain.
  • Stress reduction: Using Tui Na to stimulate specific points promotes relaxation and diminished stress-related symptoms.
  • Pain Relief: The enhanced flow of energy, blood, oxygen and nutrients caused by Tui Na alleviates headaches, backaches, neck pain, joint pain and muscle tension.
  • PMS, Postpartum and Postsurgical Care: Tui Na eases discomfort associated with PMS, childbirth or surgery.  It not only reduces pain, it increases blood flow and speeds healing.
  • Promoting Healthy Digestion: Tui Na relieves digestive issues like bloating, diarrhea in children, constipation and symptoms of IBS.
Students take turns practicing Tui Na (Acupressure) on each other at 91重口.

Advanced Circulatory and Sports Massage, is a 100-hour course that combines advanced techniques in both massage modalities, says Harmony Morgan, Director for 91重口 Laguna Hills.  One of our most popular courses Advanced Circulatory and Sports will be coming to the Laguna Hills campus on January 24 and runs through March 16th.  It will be taught by Staff Instructor, Chris Morgan on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am 3 pm.

This advanced course introduces students to new ways to enhance their bodywork and its impact on clients.   They learn to use palms, knuckles, fingers, elbows and forearms, taking Circulatory Massage to new heights.

In addition, they learn deep, invigorating manipulations and cross-fiber techniques characteristic of Sports Massage.   When added to a Graduates resume, Advanced Circulatory and Sports Massage gives them a distinct edge which translates into increased job opportunities.

Massage Therapists use their elbows and body-weight to relieve shoulder tension.

The Benefits of Advanced Circulatory & Sports Massage Techniques

Body & Mind: Circulatory massage positively impacts both the physical and emotional aspects of an individual. It is a nurturing experience that reduces the stress hormone Cortisol, while boosting good feeling hormones Serotonin & Dopamine. Gentle Circulatory Massage also lowers your blood pressure and heart rate. This is especially beneficial for Athletes after their event.

Eases Muscle and Joint Pain: The strokes such as Effleurage, Petrissage and Fanning used in Circulatory Massage also relax and lengthen the muscles after an event. The lengthened muscles reduce tension on the ligaments and structures that cause pain. Sports techniques such as cross-fiber release old adhesions and scar tissue which speeds healing and enhances performance.

Improves Blood Flow: The strokes used in Circulatory massage increase blood flow and circulation throughout the body.  As a result, it can open blood vessels and increase the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the heart, lungs, and other organs.  Fast, invigorating strokes of Sports Massage ready muscles for action and stimulate the nervous system for optimal performance.

Improved Flexibility: Circulatory massage promotes relaxation of the muscles, relieving tension and stress and promoting healing. Relaxed muscles allow for improved flexibility and ease of motion. Range of motion is enhanced by Sports massage that stretches, strengthens and dissolves adhesions and scar tissue.

Sports Massage is done on-site at Athletic Events

Reduces Inflammation: The increased circulation helps stimulate the lymph system which flushes toxins and excess fluids from the body.  Improved circulation helps remove waste products from muscles and tissues which reduces the risk of inflammation and blood clots.

Enhances Athletic Performance: Circulatory and Sports Massage techniques reduce muscle soreness, speed recovery from injury and optimizes range of motion. Massage serves as a natural pain relief method.

Improves Immune Function: By promoting circulation of blood throughout the body, Circulatory Massage stimulates the lymph system which enhances our immune response.

淭he idea of a Vision Board is to create a visual aid that speaks to your mind and heart, says Harmony Morgan, Director for 91重口 Laguna Hills.聽 淚t is a combination of meaningful images, words and concepts that reflect your goals, aspirations and the necessary steps to reach them. A vision board is best created from a place of gratitude; appreciating all you currently have, while eagerly anticipating the good to come!聽 Try to suspend self-limiting thoughts about what you can achieve and dream big!

91重口 Student/Healers value helping others!

Step One Know Thyself!

Reflect on what most important to you, ask yourself:

  • What do I really value?
  • What would I like to accomplish or learn?
  • How do I want to contribute to society?
  • What do I consider to be a good life?
  • How do I want to spend my time?
  • What are my relationship goals?
  • What kind of 榩artner do I want in life?
  • Whom do I want to spend time with?
  • How can I improve my interaction with others?
  • What are my career goals? My dream job?
  • Would I like to start my own business, or work for others?
  • What steps could I take to land my dream job?
  • What are my goals for fun and recreation?
  • What are my health and fitness goals?
  • How can I achieve the weight, strength, flexibility, and health I desire?
  • What other personal goals would I like to manifest?
Students create Vision Boards at the School’s Annual Holistic Living Retreat.

Step Two Choose a format and supplies.

Most people who make vision boards make them out of poster-board, foam-board, or on any material that can be hung or propped up against a wall. Many 91重口 students choose a 3-panel foam, display board. It allows them to address Mind, Body, and Spirit on one board.  The construction allows it to stand alone or be hung on a wall.

You檒l also need a pair of scissors, a glue stick or mounting tape, colored paper, colored markers and an optional easel-back so it may stand-alone.  Gather magazines, cards, or photos you檇 like to include.  Feel free to bedazzle your boards with glitter, rhinestones, ribbons, frames, block letters or other crafting items of your choice.

Step Three Inspire Yourself!

You may want to explore a variety of different sources for your potential content.  Whatever you choose, make sure the images appeal to you and demand your focus. Collect Images, words, and concepts that inspire you. All words used on your vision board must have a positive, appealing tone, and phrased to reflect present tense. For example, 淚 enjoy eating healthy, nutritious meals that help me maintain a healthy weight as opposed to 淚 will starve myself until I reach my goal weight.

Sources may include:

  • Print Magazines, newspapers, greeting cards
  • Personal photos, drawings, poems, etc.
  • Images found online via search engines
  • Topic-specific websites or E-magazines
  • Websites for Inspirational Quotes
  • Websites with Positive Affirmations
  • Original affirmations specific to your circumstances.

Step Four Putting it all together!

This is your Vision Board, so it should reflect your unique personality, preferences, and potential.聽 Let go of any pre-conceived limitations and focus on the process to accomplish your goals.聽 Be sure to keep it positive, inspiring, and challenging enough to inspire growth.

Choose images that also reflect your desires, such as a slimmer, healthier, stronger physique. Or a new wardrobe, a new car, or a new career! Look for images that reflect the characteristics you檇 like to see in your best Self.  Find images that are strong, bold and empowering. For example, if you檙e working on becoming less judgmental, find a picture that symbolizes acceptance of others. To feel less anxious, include a photo of a roaring Lion.

In other words, it helps to reduce cortisol攖he hormone that causes us to feel stressed攁nd increases endorphins攚hich make us feel good!

The Benefits of Massage Therapy

The effects of massage are not only psychological but also physiological. Music and massage are deeply connected. Did you know that music can actually have a on people levels of anxiety and relaxation? Choosing the right kind of music for your massage therapy sessions is a key part of setting the right vibe and overall feeling for each massage experience. Read on for all the essential tips for selecting the very best massage music!

How to Choose Music For Your Clinic

Choosing the perfect music for your massage clinic is easy. Just follow these three steps!

Pick a Great Beat

Did you know that not all beats are created equal? In order for the music to be as relaxing as possible, it best to pick music that is not too fast, simple, and somewhat neutral. The songs shouldn檛 be too familiar, as this can be distracting for certain people. A few good genres of music for massage therapy include soft pop, nature sounds, classical music, and world music. All of these have slow, ambient tones which have been to help people relax! Avoid overplayed popular songs or extremely complicated music, which can get annoying and repetitive very quickly. Remember, this is a massage clinic, not a top forty playlist.

Have a Wide Selection of Options

No one wants to listen to the same song over and over every day, so make sure you have more than one playlist available for your massage clinic. Likewise, not every client likes the same genres or artists, so it good to have a few you can quickly switch between. Also, make sure each is a fairly long playlist that can go for at least a few hours. The last thing you want during a massage therapy session is for your playlist to end halfway through and be left in silence. Talk about awkward!

Remember, Each Client is Different

In the end, it vital to remember that your client is the one whose needs and wants should be respected and listened to. When they are getting their massage, it their time and their experience not anyone else! Thus, it important to communicate openly with your client and understand what their personal preferences are. Remember that just because you or a particular client enjoy a certain kind of music, it does not necessarily mean that everyone else does. Have a couple of mood-based playlists available for options, and make sure your client knows that they can request a swap if they檙e just not feeling a particular beat!

Music For Massage Therapy Clinics

Music is an important part of setting the scene and overall feel of your massage therapy clinic. Just like massage, music is a great way to help you, your staff, and your clients relax and escape from the everyday stresses of life. Following a few easy guidelines can help you pick the best possible playlist of massage therapy music, proven by studies to assist your massage clients in their relaxation. Take your massage therapy clinic to the next level of excellence with the perfect playlist, which is sure to promote an environment of healing. Your clients are waiting!
