Somatic awareness is used to guide changes in disease/illness beliefs, body schema, coping styles, interpersonal dynamics, sleep, and medication dependence. It involves directing a patient’s attention to their body experience and associated feelings.  Its purpose is to activate self-healing and promote holistic health.

What will I learn?

What is Manual Lymph Drainage?

Our body Lymphatic System is a network of organs, tissues, and vessels that maintain fluid balance and the absorption of fats in the body. An essential part of our immune system, the Lymphatic System, defends the body against infection. It relieves swelling that occurs when illness or medical treatment clogs your lymphatic system.

Why Learn Manual Lymph Drainage?

Manual Lymph Drainage involves gently manipulating excess fluid in your tissues toward lymph vessels and nodes to rid the body of toxins. Knowing how to integrate it with other modalities increases the Practitioner impact on clients and value to Employers, said Paula Curtiss, Founding Director for HHS.

Our Manual Lymph Drainage Course

In our Manual Lymph Drainage program, our instructor uses lectures, demonstrations, and guided hands-on practice to teach students how to move lymph fluid from various parts of the body.聽Students explore the anatomy of the Lymph System and the reasons for providing manual lymph drainage massage. These include its ability to speed the body healing after an injury or surgery and release stagnant, toxic fluids from the cells. That important because toxic fluids affect our health in important ways.聽These include creating a lack of energy, minor aches and pains, chronic inflammation or susceptibility to illness.

Mobile massage therapists are becoming increasingly popular among people who prefer to receive massage therapy in the comfort of their own homes or workplaces. Here we檒l explore what mobile massage therapy is, its benefits, and what to expect from a session with a mobile massage therapist.

What is Mobile Massage Therapy?

Mobile massage therapy is a type of massage that is performed in the client preferred location rather than in a massage clinic or spa. Mobile massage therapists bring all the necessary equipment, including a massage table or chair, linens, and massage oils or lotions, to the client location.

Mobile services are ideal for:

  • Busy professionals
  • Parents or caregivers
  • Individuals with limited mobility
  • Athletes or performers needing on-site recovery
  • Hotel guests
  • Corporate wellness events

Benefits of Mobile Massage Therapy

  1. Convenience: With mobile massage therapy, clients don檛 have to worry about traveling to a massage clinic or spa, which can be time-consuming and inconvenient. Instead, they can enjoy a massage in their own home, office, or hotel room.
  2. Comfort: Many people find it more relaxing to receive a massage in their own space, where they can control the temperature, lighting, and music. They can also wear comfortable clothing and avoid the stress of navigating a new environment.
  3. Privacy: Many clients prefer the discretion and personal feel of in-home treatments.
  4. Time-saving: Clients can save time by not having to commute to a massage clinic or spa, which can be especially beneficial for those with busy schedules.

What to Expect from a Session with a Mobile Massage Therapist

  1. Initial Consultation: Before the massage, the therapist will ask the client about their medical history, current health conditions, and any areas of pain or tension they would like addressed.
  2. Set-Up: The mobile massage therapist will bring all necessary equipment and set up a comfortable space for the massage.
  3. Massage: The therapist will begin the massage using a variety of techniques to address the client specific needs and preferences.
  4. Post-Massage: After the massage is complete, the therapist will allow the client time to rest and relax before packing up their equipment and leaving.

How to Start a Mobile Massage Business in California

Starting a mobile massage business can be a rewarding career path with flexible hours, low overhead, and the opportunity to earn higher rates than in traditional environments.

Below is everything you need to get started professionally and legally.

1. Meet California Licensing Requirements

To legally practice mobile massage in California, you must earn your CAMTC Certification. Requirements Include:

  • Partnership

Then file for:

  • California Business License
  • Fictitious Business Name (DBA)
  • EIN (if you form an LLC or hire contractors)

  • Professional Liability Insurance: Protects against client injury claims.
  • General Liability Insurance: Covers accidents during setup or in someone home.
  • Optional but recommended:
    • Commercial auto insurance
    • Equipment insurance

Most mobile therapists get coverage through AMTA or ABMP.

4. Buy Your Equipment (Startup Costs)

Essential Equipment List

  • Portable massage table or massage chair
  • Linens & blankets
  • Oils/lotions/creams
  • Holsters
  • Bolsters
  • Cleaning/sanitizing supplies

Common California Mobile Massage Rates:

  • $110$160 for 60 minutes
  • $150$200 for 90 minutes
  • Travel fees may apply (often $10$25 depending on distance)

Corporate or event rates may be hourly per therapist.

    • Hotels
    • Personal trainers
    • Physical therapy offices

Client Retention Tips

  • Offer packages
  • Send appointment reminders
  • Provide loyalty or referral discounts
  • Collect reviews consistently

7. Follow California Local Laws

California allows mobile massage statewide, but each city can impose its own local rules.

Some cities require:

  • Mobile service permits
  • Police background checks
  • Special business licenses
  • Parking restrictions
  • Hotel partnership approval for hotel sessions

Before operating in any city (LA, San Diego, Orange County, etc.), verify their current municipal code.

Want to Start a Mobile Massage Business?

Becoming a Mobile Massage Therapist offers many benefits, including a flexible schedule and the ability to reach clients who are limited by mobility. You can make more money: with the convenience it offers, customers are often willing to pay more for a mobile massage service than for one at a spa or clinic.

Music and massage are deeply connected. Did you know that music can actually have a on people levels of anxiety and relaxation? Choosing the right kind of music for your massage therapy sessions is a key part of setting the right vibe and overall feeling for each massage experience. Read on for all the essential tips for selecting the very best massage music!

How to Choose Music For Your Clinic

Choosing the perfect music for your massage clinic is easy. Just follow these three steps!

Pick a Great Beat

Did you know that not all beats are created equal? In order for the music to be as relaxing as possible, it best to pick music that is not too fast, simple, and somewhat neutral. The songs shouldn檛 be too familiar, as this can be distracting for certain people. A few good genres of music for massage therapy include soft pop, nature sounds, classical music, and world music. All of these have slow, ambient tones which have been to help people relax! Avoid overplayed popular songs or extremely complicated music, which can get annoying and repetitive very quickly. Remember, this is a massage clinic, not a top forty playlist.

Have a Wide Selection of Options

No one wants to listen to the same song over and over every day, so make sure you have more than one playlist available for your massage clinic. Likewise, not every client likes the same genres or artists, so it good to have a few you can quickly switch between. Also, make sure each is a fairly long playlist that can go for at least a few hours. The last thing you want during a massage therapy session is for your playlist to end halfway through and be left in silence. Talk about awkward!

Remember, Each Client is Different

In the end, it vital to remember that your client is the one whose needs and wants should be respected and listened to. When they are getting their massage, it their time and their experience not anyone else! Thus, it important to communicate openly with your client and understand what their personal preferences are. Remember that just because you or a particular client enjoy a certain kind of music, it does not necessarily mean that everyone else does. Have a couple of mood-based playlists available for options, and make sure your client knows that they can request a swap if they檙e just not feeling a particular beat!

Music For Massage Therapy Clinics

Music is an important part of setting the scene and overall feel of your massage therapy clinic. Just like massage, music is a great way to help you, your staff, and your clients relax and escape from the everyday stresses of life. Following a few easy guidelines can help you pick the best possible playlist of massage therapy music, proven by studies to assist your massage clients in their relaxation. Take your massage therapy clinic to the next level of excellence with the perfect playlist, which is sure to promote an environment of healing. Your clients are waiting!
